The Astute Technology Story

Astute Technology develops and markets its own technology, provides related services, and performs custom development for clients. Astute Technology is in its fifth year of business and privately held.

History

Astute Technology was founded in 1998 by Jonathan Merril, MD and Rita Roy, MD with the goal of providing innovative and powerful distance learning tools for organizations. After releasing its distance learning software, ENCORE in 2002, many organizations made ENCORE into a 'best practice.' These organizations include The George Washington University Medical Center, American Cancer Society, Johns Hopkins Medical Center, The National Institutes of Health, and other non-profit educational institutions. ENCORE enables internal lectures and presentations to become web-based assets. While conferences and meetings are often cost centers in organizations; ENCORE facilitated the transformation of these events into profit centers and/or enabling an increased return on investment by enabling larger audiences with reduced cost.

In 2003, Astute Technology acquired the Reston office of HealthAnswers, Inc., formerly Medical Consumer Media, through an asset purchase. This purchase provided Astute Technology with greater development capabilities and world-class hosting facilities. Additionally it allowed Astute Technology to increase its capabilities in project management, software architecture, development, and testing, as well as overall project development/implementation. Astute Technology has core competencies in web design, DVD and CD-ROM production, web broadcasting, and software integration.

Astute Technology prides itself on working closely with its clients and building applications based solely on their requirements. Being "in the trenches" has given the Astute Technology team a unique prospective. While other companies have built products on early speculation for a market that was almost non-existent at the time, many of Astute Technology's products and services take advantage of our staff's understanding of market requirements and leverage new technologies that were previously unavailable.

The company continues to have its offices in the historic Bowman House located in Reston, Virginia adjacent to the Reston Town Center and within 15 minutes of Dulles Airport.
